VEHICLE APPLICATIONS: Vehicle security bollards are a means of visually defining areas that prohibit vehicular traffic and in extreme cases simply provide solid protection against vehicle impact.
K12 Rated vehicle application bollards: K-12 rated bollards are rated for a 15,000 lb vehicle traveling at 50 mph that has a 1 meter penetration into the bollard. That definition creates quite an imaginative picture. To further define what impact this type of bollard will endure, we have provided images of a vehicle test impact. The K12 rating is defined by the U.S. Department of State.
Three basic types of vehicle safety bollards are:
Baseplate mounted bollards: These units are stationary and fasten permanently to a hard surface by drilling into the base surface and installing the best suited fastener for the surface application. Typically, there are 4 mounting holes provided in the baseplate of the unit.
Removable bollards: This unit offers an embeded base that allows the top portion of the bollard to be removed and reinstalled by hand at your discretion. Other types of removable bollards are the bollard sleeve or bollard cover which simply slides over a typical stationary pipe bollard that enhances the eye appeal of the bollard and assists with impact absorbtion.
Retractable bollards: There are two different styles of retractable bollards. Manual bollards rise up from the base and lock into place and vice versa with minimal effort. This style of bollard is actuated all by hand. Automatic bollards provide a mechanical advantage using a pneumatic, electric or hydraulic assist to actuate the bollard assembly in the up or down position with no effort required from a person. Personnel, Equipment and building applications: Safety bollards can be used in virtually every application to protect employee work areas by providing visual awarness and physical security to personnel working in the same areas where rolling stock and other hazardous equipment are being utilized. Bollards can be used in the same way to protect machines from being damaged and builings as well. Common building applications include inner building support protection, overhead door opening protection, and to protect corners and walls of buildings or anywhere that building damage can possibly occur.
Decorative or ornamental bollards: There are manufacturers who provide tastefull and fashonable bollard posts and bollard sleeves for grounds beautification and security as well.
Utility bollard-electrical access: Bollards of this style are usually stationary base plate mounted units that provides the added feature of exterior rated electrical outlets for grounds maintenance, etc.
Camera or Video bollards with motion sensors: Innovative stationary bollards that provide an added means of security by providing images or video surveillance of the area the bollard is located.
